5/3/07: Wimberley High School was the Sweepstakes Runner-Up at the UIL Academics State Meet in Austin this past weekend, 4 1/2 points behind the winner. Those students contributing to this wonderful achievement are:

4/14/07: Wimberley High School's UIL Academic team won Sweepstakes at the Regional Meet in Kingsville Saturday. Several individuals and teams will advance to the State Meet in Austin May 3, 4 and 5.
The top three individuals in each contest will advance and the entire top team will also advance.

4/13/07: "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", WHS's entry in the UIL One-Act Play Contest, advanced to the STATE Meet at the Regional OAP Contest in Kingsville Friday night. Zane Gordon-Bouzard was named Best Actor with Annie Bond and Chris Bakka on the All-Star Cast and Andy Patoski on the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast. This is the seventh year in a row for WHS to compete in the State Meet. The contest will be on May 3 in Bass Concert Hall on the UT campus.
3/31/07: "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," WHS's UIL One-Act Play entry, advanced to the REGIONAL meet. Zane Gordon-Bouzard was named Best Actor Chris Bakka and Annie Bond were named to the All-Star Cast. The REGIONAL competition will take place on Friday, April 13th at Texas A&M - Kingsville. Time to be announced on the Lone Star Theatre web site.

3/23/07: "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," WHS's UIL One-Act Play entry, advanced to the AREA meet. Zane Gordon-Bouzard was named Best Actor Chris Bakka, Annie Bond and Andrew Patoski were named to the All-Star Cast. Honorable Mention All Star Cast honors went to Cameron Allen and Harry Tork. The AREA competition will take place on Saturday, April 7th at Schretz-Steele. Time to be announced.

2005-06 Competition Results

4/21/06: "Man Of La Mancha," WHS's UIL One-Act Play entry, advanced to the STATE meet. Brooke Shedd was named Best Actress and Cole Sutera was Best Actor. Zane Gordon-Bouzard and Patrick Byers were named to the All-Star Cast. This is the 6th year in a row for WHS to advance to the State Meet. The competition will take place on Thursday, May 4. The performances start at 4 pm in Bass Concert Hall. Wimberley performs in 3rd position.

4/8/06:  "Man Of La Mancha," WHS's entry in the UIL One-Act Play contest, advanced to REGIONALS.  Brooke Shedd was awarded Best Actress. Named to the All-Star Cast were Cole Sutera, Patrick Byers and Zane Gordon-Bouzard, while Bryan Chafin was named to the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast. The REGIONAL Contest will be held in Kingsville, TX on Friday, April 21st.
 
3/30/06 The WHS UIL Academic Team won District (AGAIN) with several teams and individuals advancing to Regional at Kingsville on April 21/22.  The Academic Team scored a total of 348.33 points to its closest competitor, Bandera, which had 277 points. Those advancing and placing are:

3/23/06:  "Man Of La Mancha," WHS's entry in the UIL One-Act Play contest, advanced to AREA.  Cole Sutera was awarded Best Actor. Named to the All-Star Cast were Patrick Byers and Zane Gordon-Bouzard, while Bryan Chafin and Brooke Shedd were named to the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast. Faith Chonko was named to the Honor Crew.  The AREA Contest will begin at 1:00 PM in the Wimberley Lone Star Theatre on Saturday, April 8. "Man Of La Mancha" will perform third.
 
3/14/06 - Results from the State 3A Debate Tournament:

Matt Howard and Malone Allen brought home the first State Championship in Cross-Examination Debate in Wimberley High School history. The State CX Tournament was held on the UT-Austin campus March 13-14.

While 64 teams started the tournament, only 16 remained on the second day. Seeded 15th, the team went undefeated the second day, winning the final debate against Lindale by a 3-0 decision. One finals judge, Terri Robinson of Georgetown (who was the framer of this year's debate question), said, "It was the best debate I've seen in years. I want a copy of the videotape to use as a teaching tool."

This was the second year for
Matt and Malone to qualify for the State Meet. They are also two-time District Champions!!!
1/28/06 - Results from the Round Rock Invitational:

For the second year in a row, Lane Schwager won 1st place in Poetry Interpretation. That feat had never been accomplished in the history of the tournament.

The CX Debate team of Matt Howard and Malone Allen won 1st, making it the first team in the history of WHS to do so. Reaching the Quarterfinals in CX were Lorrie Cope and Lanel Land. Also reaching the Quarterfinals was Chelsea LeFevre in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

The Current Events Team won 1st place, with Kendra Williams placing 1st, Ruth Bryan 2nd, Daniel Willis 3rd, and Chris Dealing 5th.

The Social Studies Team also won 1st place (great job, Mr. Lake!!! two first teams!), with Chris Dealing placing 3rd, Zach Burke 5th, and Ruth Bryan 6th.

The Science Team took 2nd Team, with Chris Dealing placing 1st overall and Scott Sudderth placing 5th. Chase Patterson placed 1st in Biology. (Yea, Doc Richards!)

Forty-two (42) schools competed in this tournament. These students and coaches deserve hearty congratulations.

2004-05 Competition Results

5/9/05 - "The Beggar's Opera", WHS's entry in the One-Act Play State Meet, placed 2nd. Helyn Messenger was named Best Actress and the winner of the Samuel French Award. Zane Gordon-Bouzard was named to the All-Star Cast and Cole Sutera was on the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast. J. Gary Wyatt and Lydia Miller-Wyatt are the directors.

The Science Team won 1st Place. Austin Deuschner placed 2nd overall. Ray Skunda was 1st in Chemistry for the second year in a row. This is the 6th State title for Dr. Ron Richards.

The Current Events Team, coached by Kirk Lake, placed 2nd. Tony McDonald was 2nd overall, with Chris Dealing 5th.

The Social Studies Team, also coached by Kirk Lake, placed 3rd. Tony McDonald was 2nd overall.

Will Harrison placed 6th in Persuasive Extemporaneous Speaking. He is coached by Lydia Miller-Wyatt.

Wimberley tied for 3rd place in Sweepstakes.

2/8/05 - DISTRICT CHAMPIONS - The Cross-Examination Debate Team of Matt Howard and Malone Allen won 1st place at the UIL District CX Debate Tournament in Ingram. They now advance to the State Meet in Austin March 14.

2/5/05 - The Cross-Examination Debate Team of Matt Howard and Malone Allen won 1st place at the Abilene Wylie Debate Tournament. They had a perfect undefeated record. Please wish them well, as they compete at the District CX tournament Tuesday, February 8th in Ingram.
