The Academic Booster Club (ABC) is a parent / teacher organization at WHS.  We serve as advocates of academic effort and achievement at the high school.  We support academic achievements for ALL students.  Every spring we award academic scholarships to graduating seniors whose parents are members of ABC.

Our meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM in the Wimberley High School Library.  Come join us!

WIMBERLEY HIGH SCHOOL

  ARTICLE I

PURPOSES AND POWERS

Section 1.1  Name/ fiscal year: The name of this non-profit organization shall be the Academic Booster Club, known herein and elsewhere as ABC. The fiscal year shall begin July 1 and end June 30.

Section 1.2 Mission Statement:  Supporting, promoting, and encouraging       academic achievement.

Section 1.3 Purpose:  The Academic Boosters shall support and promote the following sponsored activities, events or programs pursuant to and in accordance with the policies of the Wimberley Independent School District.

     1.  Communicate relevant information about academic events at the high school.

     2.  Recognize academic effort.

     3.  Sponsor teacher appreciation luncheons.

     4.  Award scholarships.

     5.  Support any sponsored activity approved by the Principal.

Section 1.4 Membership:  Membership shall be open to any parent/guardian or community member interested in the promotion and support of the above ABC family.  Annual membership dues will be $10.00 per family. To be considered an active member of ABC, dues must be paid by October 31st of the current school year.

Section 1.5 Officers:  The slate of officers for ABC shall include president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer.

       1) President:  The president shall preside over all Academic Booster Club meetings and shall be entitled to vote on any issue.

       2) Vice-President:  The vice-president shall assume the duties of  the president in his or her absence.

       3) Secretary:  The secretary shall keep the minutes of the meetings.

       4) Treasurer:  The treasurer shall keep account of the budget and monies raised for the organization. The treasurer, president, and vice president will be authorized bank signators. Two signatures will be required on check requests over $100.00.

If an officer misses two consecutive regular meetings (or total of three) per school year, the board reserves the right to appoint a replacement.

Section 1.6 Election and Term of Officers: Each officer shall be a member of ABC; and an officer must have a child who is currently enrolled in Wimberley High School. The term of office will follow the fiscal year.

When electing officers, nominations will be taken from the floor and determined by majority vote by the membership.  The officers of the Academic Booster Club shall be elected annually at the final meeting of the school year.

Section 1.7 Voting:  Dues paying members, including the president, shall be entitled to vote on each issue. Three active members and two officers will constitute a quorum.

Section 1.8 Committees:  The following ABC committees will be established to carry out the various functions and responsibilities of the Academic Booster Club: 1) Membership, 2) Goal Cards, 3) Concessions, 4) Scholarships, 5) Refreshments, 6) Teacher Appreciation Luncheons, 7) Directory, 8) Fundraiser/Movie,  & 9) Publicity.

Section 1.9 Scholarships:  The majority of funds raised will go towards awarding scholarships at the end of each school year. To be eligible to apply for a scholarship from ABC, a student must be a senior, meet the established criteria, apply by the deadline, and have a parent/guardian who is an active ABC member.

      (a) Scholarship criteria will be reviewed and approved annually by membership vote.

      (b) The Scholarship Committee consists of ABC members. An ABC member of a senior student may not serve on the scholarship committee.

      (c) Scholarship funds will be raised by ABC and will be augmented by a percentage of the proceeds from Wimberley High School concession stand sales.  An ABC volunteer will work at every concession stand event sponsored by WHS.

      (d) Scholarship recipients must provide proof of enrollment at an institute of higher education in order to receive scholarship funds. Recipients must claim their scholarship by the end of the calendar year in which they graduated.

Section 1.10 Amendments:  This article may be amended, added to, or a new Article added upon majority vote of the ABC membership.
