One example of this is that a parent may provide any foods they would like to for their child but they may not provide foods for their children’s friends or neighbors. The web link below takes you to The Texas Department of Agriculture’s web site where all these regulations are listed. http://www.squaremeals.org/vgn/tda/files/2348/13440_TPSNP%20SY_09-10.pdf Menus There are a number of choices available at all the schools and menus are posted on this web site (see above). Students are offered a number of food items that we call meal components. Examples of these are a Turkey Sandwich (which has two components) a meat/meat alternative and a grain/bread. Other grain/ bread options could be a roll, cornbread, crackers, or even the breading on chicken nuggets (for example). Vegetables and fruits such as a lettuce and tomato salad, fruited gelatin, fresh baby carrots, cantaloupe pieces, and others are offered and are called vegetable/ fruit components. Also a variety of low fat milk (1%) including white, chocolate, and strawberry as well as white skim milk is offered. At breakfast students may choose 2 grain/breads or 1 grain/bread, 1 meat/meat alternative and 1 fruit (or juice) and 1 milk. At lunch students may choose a meat/meat alternative, 2 fruits and 1 vegetable or 2 vegetables and 1 fruit, 1 grain/bread and 1 milk. Most schools operate under the offer vs. serve program where a student only selects what they actually want to consume in that meal. For a breakfast or lunch to count as a meal students must choose at least three components. A student who chooses less then 3 components at breakfast or lunch or more then 4 components at breakfast or 6 components at lunch must pay what is called ala carte pricing for those items. Ala Carte items are items that are not part of a regular (reimbursable) meal. Examples of this are getting two entrees with a meal or buying bottled or canned drinks such as water or Gatorade, a cookie or baked chips. These items are charged specific prices and are not included with a meal. Pricing & Payments The price of breakfast at all schools in $ 1.35 for students paying full price and $ .30 for students paying (receiving) reduced priced meals and $ 1.75 for adults and visitors. The lunch prices are $ 2.25 @ Scudder Primary, $ 2.50 @ Jacob’s Well Elementary, $ 2.75 @ Danforth Junior High, and $ 3.35 @ Wimberley High School. For students paying (receiving) reduced price for meals the price is $ .40 cents at all schools. The price for adults and visitors is $ 3.35 at all schools. Parents can send money with their students in either cash or check and the money are deposited in each individual students account. Beginning in August 2009 parents will be able to use their Visa or MasterCard to put money on their student’s account via a secure internet site www.paypams.com A link to this web site is here and on the districts home page. If you have two students at the same school then a single check or cash can be sent but it must say the students names, grades, and how much to deposit into each student’s account. Some schools such as Jacob’s Well Elementary, Danforth Junior High and Wimberley High School have additional ala carte selections available for additional costs.
